Local knowledge

Three Bristols, one line-up

Bristol has a stronger reason to like racing simulators than most cities. Airbus has its UK base at Filton, Rolls-Royce civil aerospace sits alongside it, and the wider West of England cluster supports tens of thousands of engineering jobs. Put a force feedback wheel in front of that audience and the questions are about tyre models and telemetry, not whether it’s a video game.

The second Bristol we work for is financial and technical: Lloyds Banking Group, Hargreaves Lansdown and Computershare all run big operations here, with Graphcore, Ultraleap and OVO Energy in the cluster around them. That world books all-hands days, client hospitality and summer socials. Then there’s creative Bristol, the city of Aardman and the BBC Natural History Unit, which usually wants the sims wrapped so they look like part of the set.

Everything we bring lives at Silverstone Park in Northamptonshire. There’s no Bristol depot, and the city sits just inside the 100 miles of delivery included in every price. We cover Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon and Chippenham from the same door, and the full list is on our simulator hire locations page.

Ashton Gate Stadium

The largest events venue in the South West and the one we’re asked about most. The Lansdown Suite runs to around 1,000 theatre style and 850 for dinner, with level access and loading designed for match days.

Aerospace Bristol, Patchway

Dinner under the wings of Concorde, seating up to 550 in the Concorde Gallery. The aerospace crowd who book it know exactly what a force feedback wheel is doing, and the venue has its own parking and a level route in.

The Passenger Shed, Brunel’s Old Station

Grade I listed and one of the biggest event spaces in the city, up to 650 for dinner. A hard-floored Victorian shed with height is close to an ideal simulator room, although its central location means unloading needs a plan.

Harbourside spaces

M Shed, We The Curious, the SS Great Britain and the converted warehouses around them. The rooms suit simulators well, but cobbles, pedestrian routes and short loading windows all shape the timings, so tell us early.

Bristol Beacon

Reopened in late 2023 after a £131m transformation, with spaces from a 200 capacity cellar up to the main hall. Foyers and reception areas suit a small set-up alongside a conference or an awards night.

Filton, Aztec West and the northern business parks

Where most of our Bristol corporate work lands. Atriums, staff restaurants and car park marquees for family days and summer socials, with their own parking, level access and plenty of sockets, which makes them the easiest build of the lot.

Local questions

Asked about Bristol events

Is Bristol inside your included delivery area?

Yes, with about three miles to spare. Delivery’s included within 100 miles of Silverstone and Bristol sits at roughly 97 miles by road, so there’s no travel charge on a Bristol quote. Carry on into the wider South West and that changes: Weston-super-Mare, Taunton, Exeter and Cardiff all sit beyond the line, and past 100 miles the extra miles are charged at £1.50 each, itemised on your quote.

How early can you set up at a Bristol venue?

Setup takes around two hours once we’re through the door, and the drive from Silverstone is close to an hour and three quarters on a clear run. For a morning start that usually means an early departure and an arrival before your venue wakes up, which is normal for us. If the room isn’t released early enough to finish the build before guests arrive, an overnight stay can be the sensible answer, and hotels go on the quote at cost.

What access do you need for a harbourside or city centre venue?

Somewhere legal to unload and a sensible route to the room. Our delivery vehicle is 6.9m long, so a loading bay beats a cobbled quayside with a pedestrian route across it. Each simulator needs roughly 1.61m by 0.6m of floor, with one 13A socket running two sims. Tell us about stairs, lifts and loading windows before we quote, because they decide the team size and the timings for the whole day.
