£30

Travel charge, plus VAT

Cardiff is about 120 miles from our Silverstone base, roughly 2 hours 15 by road. The first 100 miles are included, and the remaining 20 miles are charged at £1.50 a mile. That's £30 for the whole booking, however many simulators you take.

Everything else stays the same: team, live leaderboard and 8 hours on site, setup included.

Local knowledge

A city that puts brands on show

Cardiff’s the administrative capital of Wales, and the public sector weight of the Welsh Government and the Senedd sits alongside two very commercial clusters. Admiral’s headquartered here and is one of the largest private employers in the region, BBC Cymru Wales is at Central Square, and the Cardiff Capital Region is now one of the biggest film and TV clusters in the UK outside London and Manchester.

That mix shapes what we’re asked for. Insurers and law firms book client hospitality and staff away days, production companies book wrap parties, launches and press days, and conference organisers put us on the stand, where a live leaderboard is a better reason to stop walking than a bowl of sweets. A good share of Cardiff work wants the sims carrying a brand: seat decals start at £42, and all the options are on our branded simulator hire page.

We’ve branded and wrapped sims for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1, Peugeot and Venatus, and we’ve been running events since 2018. Everything comes down the M4 from Silverstone, there’s no Welsh depot, and nothing costs more because you’re in Wales. A simulator costs the same in Cardiff as it does in Northamptonshire, and the full list of places we cover is on our simulator hire locations page.

Principality Stadium

A large estate of suites and lounges right in the middle of town, with the pitch and the roof doing the talking. International and concert dates reshape the streets around it, so flag those early.

DEPOT

The one planners mention most for anything with scale and edge: a warehouse space that seats over a thousand and stands closer to two, purpose built for awards ceremonies, trade shows and staff parties.

Civic and landmark rooms

Cardiff City Hall brings the civic marble and works with external caterers, National Museum Cardiff and Cardiff Castle sit close by, and Wales Millennium Centre down in the Bay or Utilita Arena Cardiff give an evening a different character again.

Cardiff City Stadium and ICC Wales

Cardiff City Stadium runs its own conference and events operation out at Leckwith, and ICC Wales at Celtic Manor handles the larger South Wales conferences. We cover both on the same journey.

Local questions

Asked about Cardiff events

Is Cardiff inside your included delivery area?

Not quite, because Cardiff is roughly 120 miles from our Silverstone base and delivery’s included within the first 100, so around 20 miles carry a mileage charge at £1.50 each. It’s one of the smallest travel lines we add to any quote, and it appears as its own figure. The drive itself is about two and a half hours down the M4, toll free since the Severn crossing charges were scrapped at the end of 2018.

Will you need to stay overnight for a Cardiff event?

An overnight isn’t usually needed, because two and a half hours each way plus two hours of setup fits inside a normal day for most running orders. The team travels down in the morning and home after breakdown. An overnight only comes into it if your venue hands the room over very early, or if the finish is late. Events running past 10pm carry a £300 late finish charge, and when a hotel’s genuinely needed we book it and pass it through at cost, on your quote before you book.

Can you work around a Principality Stadium event day in the city centre?

Yes, but tell us the date early. Our delivery vehicle is 6.9m long and the streets around Westgate Street and Castle Street change character completely when the stadium’s full, so we’ll plan the load-in for a window that works, often the evening before. The Bay and the Cathays Park civic buildings are far easier for access than the tight arcade streets in the middle of town. Wherever you land, each sim needs a level floor and roughly 1.61m by 0.6m of space, one 13A socket runs two sims, and setup takes around two hours.
